The two lovers in my depiction are inspired by a Armor & Psyche sculpture by Theodor Friedl I saw in Belvedere. The famous pair of Greek mythology is portrayed in a yearning embrace just like my two lovers.
The usual depiction of the lovers places them in the garden of Eden where they are protected by the angel Raphael. I, for my part, don’t think the story of Adam and Eve is particularly romantic. That’s why I decided to focus on the lovers themselves instead. The angel beams are still in the picture, by they have become more of a general godly sunshine that protects and maybe influences the loving couple.
The lovers are a sign for harmony, unity and passion in relationships. At least when the card is in its usual position with the right side up. It can also be a sign for the opportunity of choice. Depending on how the card shows up, it can therefor also be a sign, that you have to make a choice in your relationship or other aspects of your life.
If it’s upside down, the card also is a sign for inner and outer conflicts. Whatever makes you suffer could potentially have a negative impact on your life and relationships. You could see this as a sign to to find yourself again to solve your problems.
